NaNoWriMo Day 1

I started NaNoWriMo today. My novel is off to a very clunky start, with way too much exposition, way too much telling instead of showing, and horrible prose. The sentences and paragraphs are sewn together like a Frankenstein monster, and they lurch like one.

I had intended to start at 12:01 AM, but I had to put in a 17 hours at my day job, working until 2:30 in the morning. I think that makes it, technically, no longer a day job. At least, no longer a day-only job.

Today’s word count: 2223.

Total word count: 2223.

  1. Hey, I think it’s okay if your writing isn’t 100% perfect — that’s not what NaNoWriMo is about. Besides, you need to get all that exposition out, put everything on paper (as it were). When you go back to edit, you’ll have a much better understanding of your characters, story, and world, and you’ll know how to rewrite those “clunky” passages.

Good luck, and make sure to keep us all updated on your progress! 🙂
